Jeans meet roses nail art with studs

First thing you will now recognize when you follow my blog regularly is that I've shortened my nails by almost 3-4 mm which feels really a lot for me. I like the lenghs a lot and maybe I'll keep them so "short".

This design was on my to-do list for such a long time but somehow I was always afraid of doing it, I don't know why. I've seen such design already a couple of times on Instagram done by many different artists but the one whoinspired me doing it was @followthatway. I think she's the queen of floral designs and I have her picture of this design pinned on my wall of inspiration for a long time now.

I like the combination she made between the girly and the more edgy design with a small pocket painted on one of her fingers. So that was my goal I wanted to achieve.

Today I met an incredible woman here in town. I knew her store for a longer time because she's my number one supplier for Color Club and Ruby Wing polishes but until yesterday I only knew her husband because she was always busy with other customers when I was there. This time was different. Today were hardly any people in there and she had time to draw some amazing nail designs on nail art tips to display it later to customers and I had the honor to watch her doing it.

She even offered me a day where I can practice with her my nail art skills. One whole day just for me with painting and learning and I can't wait until this day finally comes. We agreed on the 16th of May so I can already start counting the days. One month to go, I can't even tell you how excited I am. All the anger of yesterday is gone and I'm so joyful and thankful that I get the change. She's one of the most amazing nail artists I've ever seen and I didn't even know that we have such amazing people here living right next to me. This was my mayor motivation for doing this design today.

How should I best explain how I did this design? Have you ever heard of the dry bruch technique? Well let me explain it to you. You take a polish you want and almost put all the polish off of your brush and stripe it over your nail. This gives a sort of used look to your nails and that's exactly how I did my jean style nails.

The base for my jean nails is this amazing blue polish by KIKO from the DENIM LE. When it was dry I took the pastel blue polish by essence and striped it off at the neck of the bottle and striped it downwards and sidewards on the base. Okay so this is what this technique is about but I would suggest that you start with the rose/pink base because it's easier to paint a dark polish over a light one.

The base color of the floral design is KIKO #376 a light pink shade. With a super thin nail art bush I painted little roses in the other two pink shades and made some little leaves in dark green. First time I did roses like this because @followthatway is a pro in this method and I wanted to try this too. The girly rose design is topped with a layer of top coat to make it shiny.

Last week I was asked where I buy my brushes and how much I spend on them. To be honest most of my brushes are from a local craft store and I cut them in the desired size with a pair of scissors. The bursh you can see here is also the brush I used for painting my flowers.

So time to make the jean design. I chose different parts on each nail to make the jean kind of look with the dry brush technique. With the sephora polish I painted a little pocket on my index finger and stuck two studs on the upper left and right corner.

Both blue polishes dry with a matte finish so I didn't need a matte top coat but I would suggest using one if the polishes are shiny. The last step was adding those cute little studs I got from bornprettystore.

This was my design today. Hope you like it and I'm happy if you leave a comment down below.

  1. These look SO SO nice!! I love the contrast between the jeans and the roses :) I also love how your jeans print turned out, and your roses are perfect. Super cool about that lady too! It made me wonder if I might have an insanely talented nail artist living next door or something, who knows! And I think the shorter length looks great on you too ;)
